About
Chris A. Nelson, PhD, (Diné and Laguna Pueblo) is an Assistant Professor at the University of Denver in the Morgridge College of Education – Higher Education Department. Chris received her doctorate in higher education from the University of Arizona’s Center for the Study of Higher Education. She also holds a master’s in Higher Education from the University of Arizona and bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix. With over 15 years of higher education experience, she has a cross sectioning of experiences ranging from educational pathways in STEM, policy research, and student affairs. Dr. Nelson centers Indigenous, decolonizing, and equity-minded approaches in her work, which spans across community-engagement, research and evaluation, and curriculum/training technical assistance.
Jonathan Nelson (Diné) specializes in art & design and marketing for over 20 years. Jonathan received his Masters of Fine Arts in Visual Communication with an emphasis in Illustration from the University of Arizona. He owns Badwinds Studios as a Native American creative consultant providing art & design in the areas of illustration, marketing, and print & web design. Jonathan understands the need for balancing Indigenous culture into marketing their identity when developing brand identity and marketing collateral. Jonathan’s client list includes Denver Public Schools - Indian Education Program, University of Denver, University of Arizona, University of New Mexico, Institute of American Indian Arts, American Indian College Fund, Apache Skateboards, Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Moenkopi Developers Corporation, Red Ink Student Publication, Redhand Apparel, Rezonate Art, Rezilience Indigenous Arts Experience.
